Spring Trail Ranch is located in the beautiful rolling hills of Piedmont NC just outside of the Raleigh-Durham Triangle in central North Carolina. John, Yvonne, and JP Cooper established their Miniature Hereford herd in July 2009 with their first visit and purchase of four heifers and our foundation bull KAP Lil Rockin Cash from KP Ranch in Nebraska and our good friends Ali and Kenny Petersen. Our second trip to KP Ranch in September 2010 has added three bred cows, two heifers, and our new baby bull KAP 1/2 HUNTER POPEYE ET ! Kenny and Ali finally visited North Carolina the end of June 2015 for a visit to our ranch, and made the statement that Spring Trail Ranch has the finest herd of Miniature Herefords on the East Coast !
Why would someone want to have Miniature Hereford's versus a standard size cow ? There are several reasons why minis' fit better with the average family. One is they are so easy to handle and willing to be worked with which makes them easy to live with. All of our minis' are halter trained which makes a world of difference in daily handling and a joy to be with. You do not have to worry about them running over you as you would with a large cow or a horse. Secondly in choosing a mini versus a large cow, you can put two minis' per acre versus one large cow per acre which allows for smaller farms to have a small herd of minis' on a small tract of land. Thirdly, minis' with their smaller size do not tear up pastures as the larger cows do which helps to keep your grass growing. Miniature Herefords best diet is good grass. They thrive and prefer green grass over all other foods. Fourthly, minis' due to their shorter frame and stout body produce more meat than large cows which means you are getting more meat per pound of food eaten by the Miniature Hereford. I always say that our Miniature Herford's act like our big dogs, our Bouvier des Flandres.
The Cooper's have been involved in raising show quality Bouvier des Flandres dogs since 1974 with producing and showing 29 Champions to date. We look forward to taking the KP genetics that we have selected and continuing the fine breeding program for improvement that Ali and Kenny have established over the last twenty some years. Thanks to Ali and Kenny Petersen for all your help ! We encourage all to stop by and see our herd and new arrivals anytime you're close by !
